Karate Kid Crane-Kicks A-Team, Wins #1 Spot

Over the years, Will Smith has become the king of the summer blockbuster. But with The Karate Kid making bank at the box office, it looks like there might be a fresh prince in town.

This remake of the 1984 underdog classic more than held its own against the big bullies of the box office. With $56 million under it’s black belt already, Karate Kid has more than doubled the earnings of The A-Team, which also opened Friday. Karate Kid‘s success secures it’s victory as the #1 80′s nostalgia remake of the weekend.

Joe Carnahan‘s The A-Team came in second, netting only $26 million. It was followed by Shrek Forever After ($15.8 Million), Get Him to the Greek ($10.1 Million), Killers ($8.17 Million), Prince of Persia ($6.6 Million), and Marmaduke ($6 Million).
