Demonstrating that she is well on her way to recovering from her recent divorce, Sandra Bullock appeared in person to accept the Troops Choice Award, as part of Spike TV’s Guys Choice Awards. It was her first public appearance since the news of her husband Jesse James’ extramarital affairs broke in March, and as she accepted the award she even managed some light humor regarding the incident.
“Let’s be honest here, just for a moment. We’re all going to be honest, right?” Said Bullock to the packed Sony Pictures Studios. “Did I win this for being entertainer of the year, or did I win this because of the spectacular I.E.D. [improvised explosive device] explosion that became my personal life?!”
She went on to explain, “No, its okay. Because I would do it over again if it was to entertain our troops, and our extraordinary troops deserve something much more than some actress in a tight dress talking about herself.”
Bullock, 45, has always shown tremendous support for the troops. But her shape-fitting black leather dress seemed to be a more visual token of her appreciation. She further acknowledged this choice in wardrobe, saying, “I would dance – I’m a pretty good dancer, but as I mentioned, the dress is pretty tight.”
The staff and guests of the event had been told that someone else would be accepting the award on Bullock’s behalf, making her appearance a well-received surprise. Bullock received a standing ovation as she accepted the award from presenter Robert Downey Jr.
The Guys Award Show will air Sunday, June 20th on Spike TV.
